Ball Cock Valve

In plumbing systems, notably in tanks, cisterns, and toilets, a ball cock valve, often referred to as a ball valve or float valve, is a type of valve frequently used to control the flow of water. Its name refers to the design of the valve mechanism, which consists of a hollow disc with a ball-like form that regulates water flow through the valve.

The ball cock valve normally consists of a lever or float mechanism, a valve body or housing, and a hollow ball or sphere with a hole in the centre. The ball is attached to the lever or float, which pushes the ball up or down as the water level changes, opening or closing the valve.

The ball rests on the valve seat when the water level is low, which causes the float or lever to drop and stop the water flow. When the water level rises, the float or lever raises the ball off the seat and releases the valve, enabling water to flow through. Until the required water level is reached, this regulates the filling of the tank or cistern. At that time, the float or lever closes the valve by lowering the ball onto the seat.

Ball cock valves are frequently used in toilet tanks to manage the refilling procedure after flushing as well as the water level. They offer a quick and easy way to keep the right amount of water in the tank and prevent overfilling.
